With the 2010 Christmas season upon us, new soccer boot launches are in abundance with several new models and colorways hitting the market. Probably the most hyped and anticipated of the lot is the Safari edition of the Cristiano Ronaldo (or CR7 is you prefer) Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly II. After weeks of viral marketing and sneak peaks of the shoes, Nike released them earlier today.

Inspired by Ronaldo’s lightning speed and effortless style off the pitch, the CR Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II combines high-performance innovation and heritage of the Nike Safari print. Nike originally introduced the print on the Air Safari running shoe in 1987, and the unexpected aesthetic transformed performance footwear design. At the time, trailblazing Nike designer and father of the Air Jordan series Tinker Hatfield began exploring non-traditional materials, patterns and colors to use in athletic footwear and conceived the now legendary ostrich-skin print.

The limited-run Air Safari quickly sold out and gained an ardent following for its striking design. Now the iconic print is back – this time on the feet of one of the best players in the world. The updated print has a stylized look, wrapping the entire boot and laces for a bold effect. Ronaldo’s signature CR Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II represents the first time the print has been applied to performance football footwear.

UPPER: The Superfly II has an ultra-thin Teijin upper that’s lined with Flywire filaments in a soccer-specific cabling pattern to deliver a precise fit and optimal support. Asymmetrical lacing enlarges the contact zone.

INSOLE: The Superfly II has a contoured sockliner with a Superfly EVA insole

OUTSOLE: Carbon fiber composite plate is the lightest and strongest outsole Nike has to offer. It has a pressure-activated adaptive traction system for speed in all conditions. The difference between a soft and firm ground stud is 3mm. So Nike has developed a new stud that extends 3 mm when ground is soft for increased toe-off acceleration and traction

These two longer studs in the forefoot also prevent slippage and create the most comfortable feeling Mercurial ever. These new toe-off traction spikes enable extra speed bursts, just like traditional track spikes. Traction pad ensures grip no matter which way you move
